Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Forum different from the Information Session?

The recent information sessions held in New Brunswick were an introduction to make people aware of what brownfields are and key aspects of their redevelopment. Some of New Brunswick’s leading practitioners talked about the regulatory process, local case studies, economic benefits and liability issues.

The Forum is digging deeper, with Canadian brownfield redevelopment leaders sharing the tools and approaches that are working now, in their own sectors, to get brownfields redeveloped. This is information that you can build on to further your interest in brownfields.

What is the special deal for participants in the Information Session?

If you participated in one of the information sessions in November or January, you will get $50 off your Forum registration fee, when you register on-line for the Forum. Of course, their account has to be up to date for the special deal to apply.

Will there be more Information Sessions?

If your community or organization would like to host a brownfield information session, please contact us for details. You can see the recent programs here.

Can I get continuing education credits for participating in an information session?

The half-day brownfield information session is recognized by the New Brunswick Real Estate Association for 3 Continuing Professional Education credits.

What are the Opportunities of Brownfields?

Across Canada, people are finding innovative ways to encourage brownfield redevelopment, because such projects bring sustainable returns in the form of increased sales, new employment and higher property values, which benefit communities, plus the increased tax revenues. The economic spin-offs from redevelopment of brownfield properties make a compelling business case for communities and all three levels of government.

Brownfield redevelopment is truly sustainable, as it brings “triple bottom line” benefits by revitalizing the environment, the economy and the community. It creates opportunities for business and employment; contamination is cleaned-up; people’s fears, and the stigma that results, are reduced; and neighbourhoods become more liveable and beautiful.

Who is hosting the Forum?

The project is being developed under the auspices of Downtown Moncton Centreville Inc. the local business improvement association. Infoplexxus, an environmental communications consultancy with a decade of experience with brownfield projects, is the project lead. Raven’s Sun Management are providing event coordination and logistical support.

The Forum has financial support from Business New Brunswick and Downtown NB.
