Making Money with
Contaminated Properties
Downtown Moncton Centreville Inc. (DMCI) is sponsoring this economic development initiative concerning the redevelopment of contaminated properties throughout the province of New Brunswick.
Beginning in October 2007 this initiative will include a series of community information sessions Making Money with Contaminated Properties in Moncton, Saint John, Fredericton and Bathurst as well as a Brownfield Forum Seizing the Opportunities & Breaking the Barriers to Brownfield Redevelopment in March of 2008.
The main focus of the Making Money with Contaminated Properties information sessions will be dispelling the myths about contaminated properties and learning how you can make money redeveloping contaminated properties. This type of redevelopment helps communities to revitalize neighbourhoods, attract new investment and be more economically and culturally diverse.
The Forum Making Money with Contaminated Properties: Seizing the Opportunities will feature national and regional experts presenting on financing options, incentives, insurance tools, economic and social spin-offs and potential legislative changes affecting liability relief.
In Bathurst, N.B. a $2.5 million public-private investment in a vacant & contaminated waterfront lot created public space, a restaurant and retail, which now returns over
10 times the previous tax revenue per a year.
